Last week at some point I sat down at the knitting machine (the Bond Simplicity) and cranked out the purple part of this shrug. It was supposed to be long sleeved but I ran out of yarn- not wanting to buy more- I just left it go with what it was. The black on the sleeves is 2×2 ribbing and the body border is 3 rows of single crochet to stop it from rolling.
Yarn: Random stash acrylic ( I believe the purple is TLC Heathers but the ballband is long gone.) and Caron Simply Soft (black) Needle size/ Hook size/Keyplate: Keyplate 4 - needle size 7- crochet hook H Pattern: My own (if you could call knitting straight stockinette for an eternity a pattern..)
This is just a ‘proto-type’ or mock up for a shrug that I’d like to do on the machine in something like Cascade 220 with an accent of maybe handspun merino/angora mix or something soft and fancy.. and I have a few additions and changes for my next pattern.
Clearly I’d like to make the sleeve full length, and I would subtract a few inches from the width of the sleeves and even more from the back portion so that it doesn’t go up my neck so far. For what its worth though.. Its actually quite wearable and warm. Its good for these weird in-between mornings where I need something over my teeshirts to walk Munchkin to the bus stop but I don’t need a full jacket or sweater. The TLC Heathers isn’t as ’squeeky” of an acrylic yarn and the addition of the Simply Soft at the edges makes it more comfortable (would the fiber snob in the back making the gagging noises please quit it?? ) and soft.
If anyone wants the ‘pattern’ I’ll be glad to put it up at some point if there are any machine knitters out there (or if you happened to be so bored that you’d like to knit 14 +inches of stockinette by hand) interested.
